New paper: how Hydra´s simple nervous system can manifest intricate sub-functionalization
How does Hydra know that it is satiated? And how does that change its behavior?
New paper emphasizes how Hydra´s simple nervous system can manifest intricate sub-functionalization. Hydra´s previously called “diffuse” nervous system is structured into a subpopulation similar to the enteric nervous system (feeding associated behavior) and into a population that is per-forming central nervous system (physiology/motor) like functions. The ectodermal neuronal population changes its activity depending on the internal state and affects other behaviors.
